Food oddities

I’m all for super yummy food and do not even pretend to eat 100% clean. I have been that crazy paleo person in my past, stressing about every little thing I ate and where it was from, was it organic, are all the bits and pieces pure of heart and completely there to make me a better person in every possible way?

It was exhausting. And stressful. It was very stressful. Is a bean ok? What about sprouted grains? Dairy? Beer?

Like I needed more stress in my life.

For the most part the rules to dietary sainthood depended on who you asked and what their take on the sins list was. Ask a beer drinking paleo person and that’s ok. Ask a dairy consuming paleo person and that is ok. It seemed like the rule book is more exceptions than rules. We found a happy medium we can live with and not be stressed out by.

The one big fat What The Heck item that gets a pass for some weird reason as a health food and that I can’t figure out why is Nutella. Have you read the ingredients list?

In case you can’t read it that says: Sugar, Palm Oil, Hazelnuts, Skim Milk, Reduced Minerals Whey (Milk), Lecithin as Emulsifier (Soy), Vanillin: an artificial flavor.

Ingredients are listed in order from most to least. So the largest quantity ingredient is sugar then palm oil then hazelnuts and so on.

Now I couldn’t actually care two seconds about Nutella. I’m not a card carrying fan, obviously. But I do wonder why this item gets a Paleo Pass. Why folks who will beat you up over the origin of the tiniest of ingredients in any other product will passionately tell you of the wonders of Nutella.

People are fascinating…in a weird way.
