Back in action!

From 2010 to late 2013, I did some defensive shooting instruction.

While involved with Tony Blauer‘s Personal Defense Readiness program, I had an opportunity to attend Rob PincusCombat Focus Shooting Instructor Development course.  Normally, you have to have gone through one of Rob’s courses as an end user (student) before being allowed to attend the instructor development program.  But, with his work with Blauer, he experimented with letting certified PDR instructors attend his instructor development program because the 2 programs share a lot of principles and concepts.

Anyway, I passed the course and began teaching Combat Focus Shooting.  Over the course of about 3 years I taught over 40 students.  Then, life seemed to take a few twisty turns for us and 2014 and 2015 have been weird years for Pam and me.  Maybe more on that later.  But, during the Spring and Summer of this year, I’ve been very much wanting to get back into the CFS program with Rob and the other CFS instructors.  So, with Pam’s encouragement, I attended the 2015 Combat Focus Shooting Instructor Conference in Arizona, as a way to kick off getting back in the program.  Additionally, in November I went to Alabama to ‘team teach’ with Barret Kendrick of Bearco Training.  Barret is one of CFS’ lead instructors.  To maintain integrity in the program, its necessary for instructors to do a ‘team teach’ with another head instructor before becoming ‘active.’

So, up to speed, my company, Effekt Personal Defense, is set up again, my website is up, I have active status in the CFS program, and I have re-established my relationship with Thunder Gun Range.  I’ve also attained my NRA Pistol Instructor certification and I’m in the process of renewing my TX Concealed Handgun License Instructor certification so that I can also teach CHL courses in 2016.

My first Combat Focus Shooting course is coming up Sunday, December 6, 2015, and I’ll have more courses listed in January soon!
